About RISE

The Rural Foundation is an independent foundation which works to support a more sustainable agriculture in Europe. It works as a think tank, bringing together experts to address key environmental/ agricultural challenges and develops high quality accessible research reports with clear recommendations for policy makers. 

The RISE Foundation is looking for a part-time communications officer to work 3 days per week on a fixed term 12-month contract (possibility to extend will be dependent on funding).

Job description

The Communications Officer will support RISE in managing its own communications, and that of two EC H2020 projects.  The post holder will manage the redesign and updating of the RISE website and two additional EC project websites.  They will also be responsible for managing three project twitter accounts ensuring that all remain active.    The post holder will work with the other team members to draft any written material required for RISE’s projects, including press releases, information sheets and brochures and be will be responsible to preparing the dissemination reporting for the EC projects.  In addition, they will bring their experience and knowledge to RISE to propose ways that the Foundation can get better improve its own communications.

As a member of a small team, the Communications Officer will also need to support the overall work of the Foundation by attending events, workshops and conferences and keeping up to date on the key agri-env policy issues, organising events, editing reports and taking on specific research tasks and relevant administration tasks. A limited amount of travel will be required.

RISE works in English and the majority of its communications material are in English, therefore a high standard of written English is a must.  Any additional European languages are a great asset.

This post would ideally suit someone who has a good level of work experience but is specifically looking for a part time role.

Qualifications/ skills/ experience required:

Essential (please do not apply unless you meet the following essential criteria).

  • At least two years of experience working primarily in communications on projects or for an organisation, which should include experience of:
  • Managing a project/ organisation twitter account
  • Working with designers to create new websites, and keeping those websites up dated and relevant.
  • Writing press releases and contacting journalists.
  • Writing communications material adapted for different stakeholder groups
  • An excellent level of written English
  • Previous experience of working in communications in a policy context and or agriculture
  • A strong level of initiative and proactivity
  • Ability and flexibility to work as part of a small team
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Mature manner and strong interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office applications, website and social media management

Desirable

  • Fluency in a second European language
  • Experience with design software

  • Based in Brussels
